Tire degradation proved to be the issue for American driver Juan Manuel Correa all weekend long at the Red Bull Ring.
With an 11th pace result yesterday, the Sauber Junior Team driver looked poised for a point paying position until a late race caution and lack of grip on the restart cost him two positions to finish tenth. With two mid-pack results and no points scored over the weekend, a regroup, analyze and refocus for the next event in two weeks’ time is already underway.
“We finished race two at the Red Bull Ring today and it was another very tough race for me,” explained Correa.
“We did some changes overnight but it seemed like the tire management did not improve which meant that I was really over the limit with the tires through out the whole race meanwhile the people around me, some of them seem like they could keep their tires alive for a longer period of time. This is what cost me to lose a few positions at the end as there was not much that I could do.”
Correa continued, “Pretty disappointed with the weekend overall with no points. It was definitely a good experience to have a race with so much tire degradation to continue to learn and get that needed experience which I am sure will be helpful in the future. Now we just have to analyze the weekend, improve the points we need to improve and go on to Silverstone in two weeks with and open mind, motivated and we have to keep on pushing.”
The next event on the FIA Formula 2 calendar is less than two weeks away over the July 12 – 14 weekend in Silverstone. Visit the www.FIAFormula2.com or follow the Juan Manuel Correa social media pages for photos, results, news and information leading up to the event weekend.
